Automat Workforce Review (2026): Pricing, Features & Honest Verdict

Reviewed by MakerStack · Published · 7 min read

TLDR

Automat Workforce gives you Ace, a hosted AI coworker with its own Mac, email address, phone number and logins. Its identity model is the smartest in this category, but $1,800 a month is a big bet on a new product. Best for: admin-heavy teams of 2 to 50. Price: from $1,800/mo paid yearly, free plan no (14-day trial). Rating: 6.5/10.

What is Automat Workforce?

We found Automat Workforce on Product Hunt, where it launched on 30 September 2026 as Ace from Automat Workforce. Automat is a San Francisco company, founded in 2023 according to its footer, whose older product, Automat Core, sells managed UI automation and document extraction to lenders, insurers and banks. The site currently runs a banner announcing a $15.5M Series A alongside the Ace launch.

Ace is the new idea. Instead of plugging into your accounts, it gets its own. You invite it to Google Workspace, Slack or your CRM the way you would add a new hire, it signs in with its own credentials, and it does the work in a browser and on a desktop. You reach it by email, Slack, text, WhatsApp, a comment in a Google Doc, or a phone call, and the Automat team handles setup and upkeep.

What Are Automat Workforce’s Key Features?

Its own identity, not yours

Most AI coworkers borrow your login, so an email they send looks like it came from you. Ace has its own account, so the record says Ace did it, and a phishing email in its mail folder is not a command issued in your name. When you stop using it, IT disables the account like any departing contractor. Automat’s blog says it built an internal password manager so Ace can sign in without putting secrets into the model’s context. That is sensible security design.

A dedicated Mac with browser and computer use

Each Workforce plan includes a dedicated Mac, an email address and a company account for Ace, plus what Automat calls agentic browser and computer use. The FAQ’s rule of thumb is simple: if a person can do it in a browser, Ace can, including internal tools and legacy systems that never shipped an API. The pricing page claims it works across millions of apps. We cannot check that claim, but the approach does sidestep the connector maintenance that tools like Zapier force on you.

On every channel, including the phone

Ace has its own number and its own voice. The Workforce page demos a text asking it to move a Thursday meeting to Friday, after which it updates the invite and emails all four attendees. Another demo has it calling a venue to confirm a deposit, with a live transcript. It also joins WhatsApp group chats, answers mentions in Slack channels, and takes edit requests from Google Docs comments.

Handbook rules, approvals and an audit trail

You hand Ace your employee handbook and add notes of your own, such as a rule that it never approves spend over $500 without a named manager. Anything you flag goes into an approval queue with Approve and Deny buttons. Every run is logged with the steps Ace took and the screens it saw. Automat lists SSO and SCIM provisioning, per-tool access grants you can revoke, and a SOC 2 Type II audit whose report is available under NDA.

What Is It Like to Use Automat Workforce?

We could not get hands-on. The Get started buttons on the Workforce page lead to an email interest form, while the trial button on the pricing page opens a login screen for Automat’s studio app. Everything below comes from the vendor’s own demos, FAQ and terms, so treat it as the pitch rather than a test.

Onboarding is framed as hiring. Step one is adding Ace to your team from your own admin console, step two is Ace accepting the Google consent screen as itself, and step three is Ace appearing in your member list with a role and a last-active time. Automat says Ace shows up the same day you onboard it, and the 14-day trial is meant to start on a workflow that already matters to you.

After that, Automat staff run a backlog board for Ace with numbered tickets such as reconciling invoices or chasing vendor tax forms. Your side is priorities, approvals and feedback. It reads like managing an assistant through an agency, which is a comfortable model for ops leads but a strange one for teams used to building their own automations.

Where Does Automat Workforce Fall Short?

Price is the obvious problem. The yearly plan is $21,600, and the terms say annual plans may be charged in one payment at the start of the term. That is a lot of money for a product that launched on Product Hunt this week and has no public case studies for Ace yet, only four short testimonials.

No per-seat pricing is only half true. Automat does not charge per user, but Ace needs seats in your own tools. Its blog says Automat provisions a Slack or Teams seat, and the demo member list shows Ace holding a full CRM seat. Those licences land on your invoices, not Automat’s.

What managed means is also muddled. The Workforce FAQ says Automat sets Ace up and maintains it, yet the pricing comparison marks fully managed automations and the forward-deployed engineering team as Enterprise only. Workforce also lacks the programmatic API, personal access tokens and MCP access that Enterprise gets.

The pricing page publishes no usage limits, and the terms mention usage charges without any rate. Trials may convert to paid automatically unless the order says otherwise, and cancelling does not refund fees already paid. Security claims vary by page too: the main site lists ISO 27001 while the pricing and Workforce pages do not. The model providers behind Ace are not named, though the privacy policy says personal data is not used to train large language models.

Finally, the developer documentation covers Automat Core’s document extraction service only. There is nothing yet on how Ace works, what it can reach, or what happens when it gets something wrong.

How Much Does Automat Workforce Cost?

Automat Workforce starts at $1,800 a month on a yearly plan, which is $21,600 per year. Month to month it costs $2,000, so the yearly plan is 10% cheaper. One flat price covers a hosted Ace for teams of 2 to 50, with no per-seat charge. Enterprise, which adds fully managed automations on the older platform, is custom priced.

There is no free plan, only a 14-day trial. One odd detail: the page’s search description calls $1,800 a flat monthly price, but that figure only applies if you commit for a year.

Against the competition this is a different league. Lindy starts at $29.99 per user per month, so a ten-person team pays about $300. Dust Pro is $24 per seat per month on a yearly plan. Manus shows $20 a month for its entry plan. Relevance AI now lists only an Enterprise plan with no public price.

So Automat is not pricing Ace like software. It is pricing it against part of a salary, and it only pays off if Ace takes real hours off paid staff every week.

Who is Automat Workforce Best For?

Use Automat Workforce if your team loses hours to admin spread across several systems: updating CRM records after calls, chasing vendors for documents, moving meetings, processing invoices. It suits agencies and regulated businesses that want an audit trail naming who did what, and managers who would rather supervise a teammate than build workflows.

Skip Automat Workforce if you are a solo founder, a team over 50, or anyone who wants to try the product without a sales conversation or a $2,000 monthly commitment. Skip it too if you need a programmatic API, since that sits behind Enterprise. Cheaper per-user assistants cover most chat and drafting work for a fraction of the price.

Best Automat Workforce Alternatives

Lindy

Lindy is an AI teammate that lives in Slack, handles email, meeting notes and scheduling, and runs routines on a timer. Plus costs $29.99 per user per month with 3,000 credits, Pro is $99.99 and Max is $199.99. It works through your own connected accounts rather than a separate identity, and it is the obvious pick for small teams on a budget.

Dust

Dust lets teams build custom agents on 20+ leading models connected to Slack, Notion, GitHub and Drive. There is a free tier with 500 lifetime credits, Pro at $24 per seat per month on a yearly plan with 8,000 credits, and Max at $120. It is better for knowledge work over company data than for working inside legacy systems.

Manus

Manus is a general agent for research, slides, websites and browser operation, with a Slack integration and a team plan. The pricing page shows $20 a month for 4,000 credits plus 300 refresh credits a day, rising to $200 a month. It is a personal tool first, not a teammate with its own accounts.

Final Verdict: Is Automat Workforce Worth It?

Automat Workforce has the most thoughtful answer we have seen to a real problem with AI coworkers: whose name is on the work. Giving Ace its own Mac, phone number and accounts means access control, offboarding and auditing work the way IT already runs them, and the phone and iMessage reach is unusual. Automat has also been automating legacy systems since 2023 for banks and lenders behind it.

But at $1,800 a month on a yearly plan, with no published usage limits, unclear managed service, and no independent evidence yet, it is hard to recommend without a trial. If you run operations for a 10 to 50 person team drowning in cross-tool admin, book the 14-day trial on one painful workflow and count the hours it gives back before signing. Everyone else should start with Lindy or Dust. We rate it 6.5/10.

Automat Workforce Pros & Cons

What We Like

  • Ace has its own accounts, so every email and edit is attributed to Ace and IT can disable it like any contractor
  • Dedicated Mac with browser and computer use reaches internal and legacy tools that have no API
  • Reachable by email, Slack or Teams, iMessage, WhatsApp, Google Docs comments and phone calls
  • Handbook rules, approval queue, per-tool access grants and a logged history of every run
  • One flat price with no per-user charge from Automat, plus a 14-day trial

What Could Be Better

  • $1,800 a month on a yearly plan ($21,600) or $2,000 month to month is steep for a product that just launched
  • Ace still needs paid seats in your own Slack, Google Workspace or CRM
  • No published usage limits, and the pricing table reserves the fully managed service, API and MCP access for Enterprise
  • Developer docs cover only the older document extraction product, nothing on Ace
