Booko Review (2026): Pricing, Features & Honest Verdict

Reviewed by MakerStack · Published · 8 min read

TLDR

Booko is a dynamic pricing engine for service businesses that sell time slots. It predicts which appointments will go unsold and pushes targeted offers to fill them. Clever idea, thin public proof. Best for: fitness studios and medspas with obvious off-peak gaps. Price: Custom pricing. Free plan: no. Rating: 6.6/10

What is Booko?

Booko is a pricing layer that sits on top of the booking software a service business already runs. It does not replace your scheduler. It reads your booking history, spots the time slots trending toward empty, and automatically sends a discounted offer to the customers most likely to take it. Airlines and hotels have priced unsold capacity this way for forty years. Booko is trying to bring the same logic to a Tuesday 2pm pilates class.

The company behind it is Booko App Inc., a Y Combinator backed startup founded by Will Hall and Arjun Saluja. The two started on the idea at Dartmouth after digging into how service labor gets priced, and they launched the dynamic pricing engine publicly on 2 March 2026. The target market is high fixed cost businesses where an empty hour is a total write-off: fitness studios, medspas, bathhouses, golf simulators, escape rooms and event venues. We found the positioning genuinely fresh. Almost everything else in this category is a booking calendar with a promotions tab bolted on the side. Booko is the reverse. It assumes you already have a calendar and only wants to own the price.

What Are Booko’s Key Features?

At-risk slot prediction

The core of the product is a demand model trained on your own booking history. It looks at historical utilization by day and hour, current availability, and how far out the booking window sits, then flags the slots that are unlikely to sell. Booko advertises 94.2% accuracy on that prediction. That is the company’s own number from its own data, not something anyone outside has audited, so treat it as a claim rather than a benchmark. The useful part is not the accuracy figure anyway. It is that the system acts on the prediction without a human sitting there deciding which Wednesday afternoon needs help.

Automated incentive campaigns

Once a slot is flagged, Booko generates an offer and distributes it to a targeted customer segment. This is the piece that separates it from a generic email blast. A blast discounts everyone, including the people who were going to book at full price. Booko is aiming the discount only at the marginal customer for the slot that would otherwise earn zero. Its published case study with ProMD Health reports 69% more web bookings against a holdout group and 5.53x return on incentive spend. A holdout test is the right way to measure this, and we give the team credit for running one, but it is a single customer study published by the vendor.

Integration with existing booking systems

Booko connects to the platforms these businesses already use, with Mindbody and Mariana Tek called out by name. That matters more than it sounds. A studio owner is not going to migrate three years of client records, memberships and payment tokens to test a pricing experiment. Sitting on top of the existing stack means the install is a connection rather than a project, and no engineering work is required on the studio side. The flip side is that the integration list is short. If you run on Boulevard, Zenoti, Vagaro or an in-house booking flow, you need to confirm coverage before you get excited.

Membership and package aware pricing

Service businesses do not sell one thing. They sell drop-in appointments, class packs and recurring memberships, and a discount that ignores those distinctions can quietly cannibalize your best revenue. Booko says it handles all three models and displays dynamic prices at the point of booking. It also claims SOC 2 and HIPAA compliance plus 99.9% uptime, which is the right posture for medspas handling health data. We could not independently verify the compliance status, so ask for the report during the sales process.

How Much Does Booko Cost?

Booko does not publish a price. There is no pricing page, no plan table, and no self-serve signup. Every path on the site leads to a demo booking, which means you are entering a sales conversation before you know whether the tool is in your budget. For a product aimed at independent studios and single-location medspas, that is a real friction point, and it is the main reason our rating sits where it does.

Compare that to what the rest of the stack costs. Mindbody’s Starter tier runs roughly $99 to $159 per month per location, with Accelerate around $259 and Ultimate at $499. Boulevard starts near $176 per month for Essentials and climbs to $410 for Prestige. GlossGenius is far cheaper at $24 per month on Standard when billed annually. Those are the numbers a studio owner already has in their head, and Booko is asking to be an additional line item on top of one of them.

Our read, based on the enterprise-flavored sales motion and the SOC 2 and HIPAA messaging, is that Booko is priced for multi-location operators rather than a single studio with one room. Some pricing tools in adjacent categories take a share of incremental revenue instead of a flat fee, which would suit this product well, but Booko has not said publicly which model it uses. Ask on the demo call, and ask specifically whether the fee is charged on recovered revenue or on total bookings. The difference is enormous.

Who is Booko Best For?

Use Booko if you run a service business with high fixed costs and visible dead hours. A fitness studio with packed 6pm classes and empty 11am classes is the textbook case. So is a medspa with expensive equipment sitting idle midweek, or a golf simulator venue that only fills on Friday nights. If you can look at your calendar and point at the gaps, there is real money in this and Booko is one of the few tools built specifically to go get it. The arithmetic is simple enough to run yourself before you call them. Take your average slot price, multiply it by the number of empty slots you have in a normal week, and take 20% of that as a rough ceiling on what Booko could recover based on the uplift the company reports from early customers. If that number is smaller than a plausible software bill, the answer is already no.

Skip Booko if any of the following is true:

  • You are already at high utilization. If your slots sell out anyway, dynamic discounting just gives away margin you were about to earn.
  • Your booking platform is not on the integration list. Without a clean connection, the whole value proposition collapses.
  • You compete on premium positioning. Visible price swings can teach loyal clients to wait for the discount, and that habit is very hard to unlearn.
  • You need to know your software costs before you talk to a salesperson. Booko will not tell you.

There is also a timing consideration. The dynamic pricing engine launched in March 2026 and the founders are early in their first company. The idea is strong and the early case study is encouraging, but you would be an early customer, not a late one.

Best Booko Alternatives

Mindbody

Mindbody is the incumbent booking and business management platform for fitness and wellness, and it is also one of the systems Booko plugs into. Starter runs about $99 to $159 per month per location, Accelerate about $259, and Ultimate $499, all per location and typically on a 24 month contract. Its marketplace can also add a 20% commission on bookings that come through it. Mindbody has promotions and marketing automation built in, so a studio on a tight budget can run manual off-peak offers without a second vendor. It will not predict which slots are at risk or automate the targeting, which is exactly the gap Booko is selling into.

Boulevard

Boulevard is the stronger option for salons and medspas that want scheduling intelligence natively rather than bolted on. Essentials starts around $176 per month per location, Premier is about $293, Prestige about $410, and the medspa-focused Aesthetics Bundle runs roughly $421, plus card processing at 2.65% and 15 cents for in-person transactions. Its Precision Scheduling feature is designed to pack the calendar more efficiently by controlling how appointments slot together. That is a different lever than discounting, and for a high-end medspa it is often the safer one because it protects your price list.

GlossGenius

GlossGenius is the cheap answer for solo operators and small teams. Standard is $24 per month billed annually for up to two users, Gold is $48 for up to nine, and Platinum is $148 for unlimited team members, with a 2.6% card fee on top. It includes booking, payments, marketing and client messaging in one subscription. It has nothing resembling Booko’s demand model, but for a single-chair studio the honest comparison is not sophistication, it is whether a $24 tool with a manual promo feature recovers most of the same revenue.

Final Verdict: Is Booko Worth It?

Booko is solving a real and badly served problem. Every service business with a calendar loses money to empty slots, and almost nobody attacks it with an actual demand model and automated, targeted offers. The design is smart: sit on top of the existing booking system, aim the discount only at the marginal customer, measure against a holdout. The ProMD Health numbers, if they hold across other customers, would pay for the software several times over.

What holds it back is everything around the product rather than the product itself. Pricing is invisible, the integration list is short, the vendor metrics are self-reported, and the engine has been live since March 2026. That is a lot of unknowns to accept on faith. Our recommendation: if you run a multi-location studio or medspa on Mindbody or Mariana Tek and you can see the gaps in your own calendar, book the demo, push hard on how the fee is calculated, and insist on a holdout test in your first 90 days. If you are a single location on a different booking platform, wait a year and let someone else validate it.

The category itself is worth watching regardless of whether Booko is the winner. Retail, travel and ride hailing all repriced unsold inventory in real time years ago, while the local service economy still runs on a laminated price list that has not changed since 2019. Somebody is going to fix that. Booko has a defensible wedge, a sensible integration-first approach and founders who clearly understand the maths. It just has not earned blind trust yet.

Booko Pros & Cons

What We Like

  • Sits on top of Mindbody and Mariana Tek instead of replacing your booking system, so setup needs no engineering work
  • Targets discounts only at the marginal customer for an at-risk slot rather than blasting your whole list
  • Published case study uses a holdout group, which is the correct way to measure incremental revenue
  • Handles appointments, class packs and memberships rather than assuming one pricing model

What Could Be Better

  • No public pricing at all: every path leads to a demo call before you learn what it costs
  • Short integration list, so Boulevard, Zenoti and Vagaro shops may be out of luck
  • All performance numbers, including the 94.2% prediction accuracy, are vendor reported and unaudited
