Citerank Review (2026): Pricing, Features & Honest Verdict

Reviewed by MakerStack · Published · 8 min read

Citerank is an AI search visibility platform that audits why your brand is not cited by ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, then generates and deploys the fixes. Our verdict: the WordPress deploy pipeline is a real differentiator and the price undercuts the category badly, but the marketing claims do not line up with each other. Best for: SEO consultants and agencies on WordPress. Price: free plan, then $49/mo. Rating: 7.5/10.

What is Citerank?

Citerank scores how visible your site is to AI answer engines and tells you what to change. You paste a URL, it runs an audit across 35 or more on-site and off-site signals, and it returns a ranked fix list. The signals cover schema markup, entity clarity and consistency, AI crawler access, passage-level citability, llms.txt, machine-readable E-E-A-T, Knowledge Graph presence, cloaking detection, rich results eligibility and Core Web Vitals. It also generates the schema code and meta tags for the fixes rather than describing them.

The pitch that separates it from the rest of the category is the last step. On the Agency plan, Citerank connects to your WordPress site and pushes schema, meta tags and title improvements live, in batches across hundreds of posts, with a before-and-after diff on every change and webhook health monitoring. Every other AI visibility tool we have looked at stops at the report and hands you a to-do list. Citerank Deploy is the only built-in deploy pipeline in the category, and for an agency running fixes across 20 client sites that is the difference between a product and a dashboard.

It is built by Michael Patrick Cortez, a partner at the digital marketing agency Webfor. That origin shows in the feature set: client workspaces, white-label PDF reports, scheduled weekly and monthly client reports and a public API are all agency-shaped features that a pure product team usually ships in year three.

What are Citerank’s key features?

The Page Auditor and its 11 sections

The core audit breaks a page into 11 scored sections and surfaces a composite Citerank Score alongside sub-scores for JS SEO, AI citation, AI readiness and passage quality. What we like is that it scores things traditional SEO tools ignore entirely: whether your content is chunked into passages an answer engine can lift, whether your entity references are consistent enough to resolve, and whether AI crawlers are actually allowed in. Those are the failure modes that matter now and most audits still do not check them.

Why Not Cited, per engine

Rather than one visibility number, Citerank diagnoses the root cause per engine, so you can see that you rank second in Gemini for a term and are absent from ChatGPT entirely. That is the single most actionable view in this category, because the engines fail you for different reasons and a blended score hides which one you are losing.

Schema and llms.txt generation

Citerank produces deploy-ready structured data instead of telling you your FAQPage markup is missing. The free plan includes three schema generations and two llms.txt generations a month, which is enough to test the output quality before paying. Combined with Deploy on the Agency tier, this is the part of the workflow that usually eats a developer ticket, and removing that ticket is most of the value.

Agentic readiness and WebMCP

There is a seven-step agent compatibility chain and a WebMCP generator, aimed at whether an AI agent can actually transact with your site rather than just read it. This is early and slightly speculative, and Citerank is right to be building it. Nobody knows yet how much agent traffic will matter in 2027, but the sites that are legible to agents will find out first.

Agency plumbing

White-label PDF reports with your branding, client workspaces as a white-label portal, scheduled client reports, unlimited monitored domains, a bulk site crawler, 20 API keys with unlimited daily requests, webhook notifications and up to five team seats. If you sell AI visibility as a retainer service, this is the tier and these are the features that make the retainer deliverable.

How much does Citerank cost?

Citerank is free forever for three audits a month, and paid plans run $49, $79 and $129 a month. Annual billing works out at $41, $66 and $108 a month, advertised as two months free. There is a 30-day refund policy and no setup call.

Free gets you three full audits, the Citerank Score, all Page Auditor sections, three schema generations and two llms.txt generations a month. Starter at $49 raises you to 50 audits a month, adds the Citation Tracker across three AI models, five monitored domains, the WebMCP generator, a weekly email digest and the site crawler. Pro at $79 unlocks unlimited audits, all 30-plus tools, 20 monitored domains, a 100-page crawler, PDF and shareable reports, Google Search Console AI Overview data, competitor share-of-voice tracking and domain projects with history. Agency at $129 adds white-label everything, unlimited domains, client workspaces, scheduled reports, the WordPress plugin and the public API.

The category comparison is where this gets interesting. Otterly.AI publishes $29 a month for 15 tracked prompts, $189 for 100 and $489 for 400. Peec AI prices by tracked prompts and models across 50, 150 and 350 prompt tiers, with the figures rendering behind its app so we will not quote a number we could not read on the page. Profound, the enterprise option, states plainly that it is available only through customised enterprise pricing. Against that, $129 for unlimited domains and unlimited audits with white-label client portals is aggressive to the point of being suspicious, and it is fair to ask what gets cut to hit it.

Do Citerank’s own claims hold up?

Not consistently, and this is the main reason the rating is not higher. The homepage headline says “6 AI engines”. The dashboard summary a few hundred pixels below says “One composite score across 4 engines”. The tracking section names Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, ChatGPT and Grok, which is four. The About block names Gemini, Perplexity and ChatGPT, which is three. The Starter tier’s Citation Tracker is specified as three AI models. That is four different numbers on one marketing site, and engine coverage is the first thing a buyer in this category compares.

The product itself says something different again. Citerank’s own Why Not Cited screenshot shows a report scored across five engines, and the five it names are Google Gemini, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude AI and an AI Web Index. Claude does not appear in the marketing copy anywhere. Neither does the web index. Grok, which the homepage does name, is not in the screenshot. So the real engine list is probably better than the copy suggests and definitely different from it. The same screenshot also shows one of the five failing with “Check failed: The operation was aborted due to timeout”, which is honest reporting inside the product and a fair reminder that live engine queries do not always return.

The social proof is thin in the same way. The three testimonials on the homepage are attributed to “SEO Director, B2B SaaS Agency”, “Founder, Independent SEO Consultant” and “Head of Content, E-commerce Brand”. No names, no companies, no links. The claim to be “trusted by SEO and GEO teams at agencies and SaaS companies” has nothing behind it that a reader can check. The quotes read as plausible rather than borrowed, which is better than the recycled-testimonial pattern we sometimes see, but anonymous praise is not evidence.

None of this makes the tool bad. The free tier is real, three audits a month is a genuine trial, and the fix lists we would judge on their own merits. It does mean you should verify the engine coverage you need before paying, and treat the comparison table on the pricing page, which scores Citerank against Otterly, Rank Tracker AI and Peec, as marketing rather than research.

Who is Citerank best for?

Use Citerank if you are an SEO consultant or a small agency with WordPress clients and you want to sell AI visibility as a retainer. The Agency tier at $129 is the cheapest way we have seen to run white-label AI visibility reporting across unlimited client domains, and Deploy means you can bill for the fix rather than the finding. That combination does not exist elsewhere at this price.

Use the free tier if you run one site and want to know whether AI engines can see you at all. Three audits a month answers that question and costs nothing.

Skip Citerank if your stack is not WordPress, because the deploy pipeline is the differentiator and it only ships to WordPress. On a Next.js or Shopify site you are buying a report, and there are more established reports to buy. Skip it if you need deep prompt-level tracking across many models, where Peec and Otterly are more specialised. And skip it if you are an enterprise brand that needs multi-market, multi-language coverage and a vendor that will sign a procurement contract, which is the gap Profound exists to fill.

Best Citerank alternatives

Otterly.AI is the closest priced competitor and the more focused one. It publishes $29 a month for 15 tracked prompts, $189 for 100 and $489 for 400, plus GEO URL audits, API and MCP request allowances at every tier. Better if prompt tracking is the job. Worse if you want the fix generated and shipped.

Peec AI tracks brand performance across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini and prices by tracked prompts and models, sold in 50, 150 and 350 prompt tiers with prompts shareable across brands and projects. Its per-tier figures render inside the app rather than on the page, so confirm them yourself before committing. Marketing teams tend to prefer its reporting; it does nothing about deployment.

Profound is the enterprise answer and is explicit that it sells only through customised enterprise pricing for brands with a global footprint. If you have multiple markets and languages and a procurement process, start there and do not expect a self-serve price.

Final verdict: is Citerank worth it?

Citerank is doing something the rest of the AI visibility category has not bothered to do, which is close the loop between the audit and the change. Everything else in this space sells you a score and a homework list. Building schema generation and a WordPress deploy pipeline into the same tool is the right product instinct, and pricing the agency tier at $129 with unlimited domains and white-label client portals is either a mistake or a deliberate land grab. Either way it is good value while it lasts.

What holds it back is credibility rather than capability. Four different engine counts on one marketing site and three anonymous testimonials are exactly the details a buyer in a trust-sensitive category will notice, and they are cheap to fix. Run the free tier on your own site first, confirm the engines you care about are actually covered, and only then decide whether Starter or Agency is the right line item. If you are an agency on WordPress, that free audit is very likely to end in a paid plan.

Citerank Pros & Cons

What We Like

  • Citerank Deploy pushes schema, meta tags and title fixes live to WordPress in batches, with before-and-after diffs
  • Per-engine root-cause diagnosis instead of one blended visibility score
  • Generates deploy-ready schema and llms.txt rather than describing what is missing
  • Agency tier at $129 includes unlimited domains, client workspaces and white-label reports
  • Free forever tier with 3 full audits a month and no card required

What Could Be Better

  • Marketing quotes four different engine counts, and the product screenshot shows a fifth list naming Claude AI and an AI Web Index that the copy never mentions
  • All three testimonials are anonymous, with no names, companies or links behind the trust claims
  • The deploy pipeline only ships to WordPress, so non-WordPress stacks are buying a report
  • Built by one person, with no published customers or security certifications
