Finbar Review (2026): Pricing, Features & Honest Verdict

Reviewed by MakerStack · Published · 7 min read

TLDR

Finbar is an AI investment research workspace with company primers, prebuilt financial models, source-linked filings data and an HTTP API plus MCP access. The data tools are serious; the self-serve plans are pricey and thinly documented. Best for: private investors and founders who model companies. Price: from $80/mo, free plan yes. Rating: 6.5/10.

What is Finbar?

We found Finbar on Product Hunt, where it launched on 1 October 2026 as an agentic research tool for investors. It is run by CEL TECHNOLOGIES LTD, a company registered in England and Wales, and it has been selling to hedge funds for a while. The Product Hunt launch marks something new: self-serve personal plans with a free tier and two paid tiers that anyone can buy with a card.

The product sits on top of Finbar’s own fundamental dataset. The company collects annual reports, 10-Ks, earnings releases, presentations and call transcripts, mostly from company websites, and extracts each data point from them. On top of that it builds a browser workspace with a spreadsheet, a report editor and an AI researcher, plus an Excel add-in and an HTTP API with MCP access for people who want the data inside their own software or chatbot.

What Are Finbar’s Key Features?

Source-linked financial data

This is the core of the product and the best reason to look at it. According to the docs, each fundamental data point links back to the page of the original filing it came from. Open the context menu on a cell in a time series and Finbar shows the source document at the exact spot the number was reported. For anyone who has been burned by a data vendor’s misfiled line item, that audit path is worth more than any chatbot feature.

Company primers and prebuilt models

All plans include company primers, which are written overviews of a business, its products, geography and history with inline citations. The public research section currently lists 721 free company profiles, from Apple and TSMC to Toyota and LVMH. Prebuilt financial models are rationed by plan: one download a month on Free, 10 on Pro Personal and unlimited on Max Personal. That allowance is the clearest line between the tiers.

An AI researcher inside a spreadsheet

The AI tab works on top of the workspace rather than in a separate chat window. It sees your selected cells and the document you are reading, can search across Finbar’s filings and price data, run web searches, edit the spreadsheet and draft a research note with charts. The docs list three headline jobs: building a model, benchmarking companies against each other and writing a report. An approval setting controls whether it asks before overwriting data.

API and MCP for your own tools

Developers get an HTTP API with OAuth client credentials and an MCP connection for the popular AI chat apps from OpenAI and Anthropic. Both expose company search, primers, documents, paragraphs and tables, and historical financial series with source references. Both share one request allowance that resets at midnight UTC, and a usage endpoint shows up to 92 days of history. The API does not return forecasts or download workbooks, and market data is only exposed through MCP.

What Is It Like to Use Finbar?

Signing up is quick and needs no card. The signup screen says it is for individual non-professional use only and points business users to an Enterprise team. That line shapes who should buy the personal plans, and we come back to it below.

The docs describe a workflow built for earnings season. Finbar aims to have new filings processed within minutes of publication and sends an email when a company’s new documents land. Its model update mode then fills your existing model with the new quarter: the docs quote 1 to 2 minutes for small models and about 5 minutes for models over 500 lines, with several models updating at once.

Documentation is a mixed experience. The API and MCP pages are detailed, with clear notes on fiscal periods, restatements and error handling. The account pages still read like they were written for enterprise clients, telling you that your Finbar representative registers your account and handles billing changes. Self-serve buyers will find little there about plans, credits or invoices.

Where Does Finbar Fall Short?

The credit system has no published exchange rate. Plans come with $5, $100 or $500 of monthly AI credits, and the docs say only that credits cover “any AI or other execution-heavy workflow.” There is no figure for what one model build, report or chat costs, and nothing on whether unused credits carry over to the next month. Some features, such as suggesting missing line items during a model update, may use extra credits.

Coverage claims do not quite line up. The marketing site promises worldwide company coverage and more than 1bn data points. The docs say thousands of companies and add that if you cannot find a company, it may not have been onboarded yet and you can request priority onboarding. TIKR and Koyfin both advertise more than 100,000 global companies, so Finbar is deeper per company but much narrower.

The Excel add-in is a headline perk of the $200 Max Personal plan, yet the docs say it is in selective early release with no public self-serve version and must be deployed by your IT team or a Finbar representative. The marketing site’s own button for it says Request an Excel demo. A Max buyer should confirm access before paying for that reason alone.

Data use deserves a careful read. Both the business and consumer terms let Finbar use your content, including prompts, files and outputs, to train or improve AI models, including third-party components, after aggregation and de-identification. The terms offer no opt-out switch. The security page says Finbar claims no independent certification and no AI provider agreement to retain nothing, and AI processing runs on Microsoft Azure with inference that may happen outside the US.

The social proof is anonymous. All four testimonials are credited to job titles at unnamed funds, such as a portfolio manager at a top-20 hedge fund. The claim of customers with more than $250bn in total AUM cannot be checked from anything on the site.

How Much Does Finbar Cost?

Finbar starts at $80 per month for Pro Personal, and there is a free plan. Free includes $5 of monthly AI credits, limited API and MCP access, primers and one prebuilt model download a month, but no support tickets. Pro Personal adds $100 of monthly credits, standard API usage, 10 model downloads and support tickets. Max Personal costs $200 per month with $500 of credits, much higher API usage, unlimited models, priority support and the Excel add-in. Enterprise is custom.

The site only shows monthly prices. The terms mention annual plans where offered, but no annual price appears in the page or its code. There is no free trial on the paid tiers and no voluntary money-back guarantee; UK and EU consumers keep their statutory 14-day cancellation right. Price increases need 30 days’ email notice and only apply at renewal.

Against rivals, Finbar is expensive for a private investor. Koyfin Premium is $79 per month on annual billing or $110 monthly, and TIKR Pro is $54.95 monthly or $37.95 a month billed annually, both with far broader company lists. Finbar’s case rests on the AI credits, the source links and the API. AlphaSense, at the other end, sells annual subscriptions through sales with no public price.

Who is Finbar Best For?

Use Finbar if you are a founder, operator or serious private investor who builds your own models on a few dozen covered companies and wants each number linked to its filing. It also suits developers who want fundamentals with source references inside an AI chat app or their own pipeline without signing a data contract.

Use it too if you work at a fund and can get your firm onto an Enterprise deal. That is where the Excel add-in, data retention terms and dedicated support actually live, and it is the version the testimonials describe.

Skip Finbar if you are a professional analyst hoping to expense a personal plan, since the signup screen limits those plans to non-professional use. Skip it also if you screen across thousands of small companies, need broad global coverage, or cannot accept your prompts and files being used for model training.

Best Finbar Alternatives

Koyfin

Koyfin is a charting, screening and dashboard platform with filings, transcripts and 10 years of financials on its Plus plan. It has a free plan; Plus is $39 per month on annual billing or $49 monthly, and Premium is $79 annual or $110 monthly. It is the better pick for broad market monitoring, though it lacks Finbar’s AI model building.

TIKR

TIKR is a fundamentals terminal covering more than 100,000 global stocks across 92 countries. It has a free plan, then Plus at $24.95 per month, Pro at $54.95 and Ultimate at $119.95, or $17.95, $37.95 and $79.95 a month on annual billing, with a 14-day money-back guarantee. For pure data breadth per dollar it beats Finbar easily.

Fiscal.ai

Fiscal.ai, formerly FinChat, is the closest match in spirit: a research terminal, a data feed API and MCP connectors for AI tools. Its pricing page shows no prices without signing up, but it offers a 7-day free trial on the terminal and MCP plans. Compare it directly if source-backed data inside an AI assistant is your main need.

Final Verdict: Is Finbar Worth It?

Finbar has a real product underneath the launch. Source-linked data, fast model updates and a thoroughly documented API with MCP access are things retail tools rarely offer, and the free plan lets you test them at no cost. The engineering clearly started with demanding hedge fund users.

The personal plans are less convincing. At $80 to $200 a month you get unpriced credits, coverage measured in thousands rather than tens of thousands of companies, an Excel add-in the docs say is not self-serve, and training rights over your content. Start on Free, check that your companies are covered, and only upgrade once you know how far $100 of credits goes. We rate it 6.5 out of 10.
