Speechius Review (2026): Pricing, Features & Honest Verdict

Reviewed by MakerStack · Published · 7 min read

Speechius is a voice-tracking teleprompter for macOS and Windows that listens to you and scrolls your script at whatever pace you actually speak. It also hides itself from Zoom, Meet, Teams and OBS screen shares. Best for: webinar hosts and course creators. Price: from €30 one-time, 14-day free trial. Rating: 7.5/10.

What is Speechius?

Speechius is a desktop teleprompter that solves the oldest problem in reading from a script: the script does not know how fast you are talking. Traditional prompters scroll at a fixed speed you set beforehand, so you spend the whole recording either racing to catch up or waiting for the words to arrive. Speechius runs speech recognition on your machine, follows the words as you say them, and moves the script to match. The word you are currently on stays highlighted.

It launched on Product Hunt on 25 July 2026 with the tagline “the teleprompter that actually listens,” built by a solo developer, Jay Imdahl. The pitch is aimed at webinar hosts, course makers, presenters and anyone who records to camera and hates losing their place. Two design decisions separate it from the crowd: recognition happens entirely on-device, and the prompter window is excluded from screen capture at the operating system level.

That second point is the one that made us pay attention. A teleprompter that is visible in your own screen share is not a teleprompter, it is a confession. Speechius asks the OS to strip its window from the video stream, so your audience on a Zoom call sees your slides and sees you, and never sees the words you are reading.

What Are Speechius’s Key Features?

On-device speech recognition that drives the scroll

The core feature is automatic speech recognition running locally, tracking your position in the script word by word. No foot pedal, no fixed speed, no assistant off camera nudging the scroll. You just talk, and the text moves.

Because it runs on your computer rather than in a cloud, it works with no internet connection at all. That matters more than it sounds for anyone who has recorded from a hotel room or a conference floor. It also means your scripts and your voice never leave the machine, which is the difference between a tool you can use for a product launch script and one you cannot.

Undetectable mode for screen sharing

Speechius requests exclusion from screen capture, so the prompter is removed from the stream that Zoom, Meet, Teams, OBS and screen recorders receive. It shows on your display and nowhere else. The honest caveat, which the site states plainly, is that a physical camera pointed at your monitor would still see it.

Most competitors handle this by making you position a small window off to one side and hope nobody notices, or by requiring a second monitor. Solving it at the OS level is a better answer, and it is the single feature we would point to if someone asked why this costs money when free prompters exist.

Slide triggers that advance your deck as you speak

You can set trigger words in the script, and when you say them the app advances your slides. Both hands stay free and your eyes stay on the lens instead of flicking to a clicker.

This is a small feature with a big effect on how a recording looks. The tell that someone is reading and presenting at the same time is usually the half-second pause while they find the arrow key. Removing that pause removes the tell.

Adjustable anchor line and click-to-navigate

You drag the anchor line to set where your eyes rest, so you can line the reading position up with your webcam and keep your gaze on the lens rather than at the bottom of the screen. If you jump ahead or lose your place, you click any word to move the cursor straight there, or step word by word from the toolbar.

There is also a live transcript in the toolbar showing the last words the recognizer heard. That is a genuinely thoughtful detail. Voice-tracking prompters fail quietly, and knowing at a glance that the app is still following you is what stops you from freezing mid-sentence to check.

Always on top and adjustable transparency

The window stays above everything else, including a full-screen slide deck, and you can dial its transparency from subtle to nearly invisible so you can read the script and watch what is behind it at the same time. Standard prompter features, executed properly.

How Much Does Speechius Cost?

Speechius starts at €30 as a one-time purchase, and there is no subscription. Pro at €30 covers one person on up to two devices. Studio at €60 covers one company with up to five seats. Both tiers include the identical feature set, so the only thing you are choosing is license scope. Those are founding prices for the first 100 buyers, after which Pro goes to €50 and Studio to €100.

Every purchase includes 12 months of updates. After that your version keeps running indefinitely and you can optionally renew to keep receiving new releases, with founding buyers locking in their discounted renewal price permanently. There is a 14-day free trial with no card required, and the clock starts on your first speaking session rather than at install, which is a fairer way to do it than most. Payments run through Paddle, with refunds inside 14 days.

Compare that to the subscription pricing in this category and the value is obvious. PromptSmart Pro, the closest voice-tracking competitor, has historically run around $99 a year for its desktop tier. BIGVU charges roughly $9.90 to $39 a month depending on plan. Teleprompter.com sits in similar monthly territory. Paying €30 once against $99 a year means Speechius pays for itself in about four months and then costs nothing.

Who is Speechius Best For?

Use Speechius if you record or present to camera regularly and you speak English or German. Webinar hosts, online course creators, YouTubers who script their videos, founders recording demo walkthroughs, and anyone doing sales presentations over Zoom where a visible script would undermine the whole thing. If you present live on calls and want a prompter your audience genuinely cannot see, this is the strongest option we have found at any price.

It is also a good fit for anyone who cannot use cloud tools for compliance reasons. On-device recognition with no account required to start speaking is a rare combination, and the crash reporting that does leave the machine goes to EU servers in Frankfurt and explicitly excludes your audio and your script text.

Skip Speechius if you need any language other than English or German. Recognition and interface are limited to those two, and for a product whose entire job is understanding what you say, that is a hard wall rather than a minor gap. Skip it if you are on macOS 12 or older, or an unsupported Windows build, since it needs macOS 13 or newer or Windows 10/11. And skip it if you only record to camera a couple of times a year, because a free fixed-speed prompter will cover that and cost nothing.

One more consideration: this is a solo developer product at version one. The 12-month update window is generous and the app keeps working after it expires, but if you need a vendor with a support desk and a roadmap committee, factor that in.

Best Speechius Alternatives

PromptSmart Pro is the closest direct competitor and the one with real history. Its VoiceTrack technology does the same job of following your speech and scrolling to match, and it has been shipping for years across mobile and desktop, typically around $99 a year for the pro desktop tier. Pick PromptSmart if you want a longer track record and mobile as a first-class platform. Pick Speechius if the undetectable screen-share mode matters and you would rather pay once.

BIGVU is the choice if the prompter is only one part of what you need. It bundles teleprompting with recording, auto-captions, branded overlays and a video editor, priced roughly from $9.90 a month. It scrolls at a fixed speed rather than tracking your voice, so you lose the main thing Speechius is selling, but you gain a full content pipeline. Good for social video teams, wrong for someone who just needs to read cleanly on a live call.

Teleprompter Premium and the many free browser-based prompters cover the basic case. Paste a script, set a speed, hit play. If you speak at a consistent pace and are recording rather than presenting live, this genuinely might be enough, and it costs nothing. The moment you need it invisible on a Zoom share, or you speak at a variable pace because you are answering questions, the free tools stop working.

Final Verdict: Is Speechius Worth It?

Speechius does one thing that its competitors mostly do not: it makes the script follow you instead of the other way around, and then it hides that script from everyone but you. At €30 once, against $99 a year for the nearest voice-tracking equivalent, the pricing is not really a debate. The on-device processing is a real advantage rather than a marketing line, and small touches like the live transcript readout and the trial clock starting on first use suggest someone who has actually recorded a lot of video.

The catch is language support. English and German only is a serious limitation for a global maker audience, and it is the reason this lands at 7.5 rather than higher. There is also the usual early-product risk of a solo build, though the one-time purchase model means you are not renting something that might disappear. If you speak English or German and you present to camera more than once a month, take the 14-day trial. If you need any other language, wait, and check back when the recognition list grows.
