StayCharted AMT Review (2026): Pricing, Features & Honest Verdict

Reviewed by MakerStack · Published · 7 min read

TLDR

StayCharted AMT trains private text and picture classifiers from examples your team has already labeled, with no code. It is honest, cheap next to rivals and unusually clear about its limits, but very young. Best for: ops teams sorting tickets, products or expenses. Price: from $49/mo, free plan yes. Rating: 7.0/10.

What is StayCharted AMT?

We found StayCharted AMT on Product Hunt, where it launched on 6 October 2026. AMT stands for AI Model Trainer. You upload a spreadsheet of past decisions, such as support tickets with the team that handled them or product titles with their catalog category, and it trains a model that sorts new records the same way. A Vision add-on does the same for photos sorted into folders.

The product is run by StayCharted LLC, a Texas limited liability company, under terms effective 28 September 2026. The changelog starts on 30 September, so this is a new service. It is also sold through AWS Marketplace at the same list prices, which is handy for companies that want the charge on their AWS invoice. The scope is narrow on purpose: it does classification, and nothing else.

What Are StayCharted AMT’s Key Features?

Five model types, from word counting to fine-tuning

The simplest option, the Classifier Model, learns which words go with each category and trains in seconds. The AI Classifier Model adds meaning from a small ready-made language model; the vendor’s own write-up names multilingual-e5-small and says it trains in about a minute on a CPU. On Business, the Dedicated AI Model fine-tunes a language model on your examples. The vendor’s benchmark article describes this as Qwen3.5-4B tuned with LoRA on a GPU.

Picture sorting with Vision

Vision trains an image classifier from a ZIP with one folder per category, or a sheet of public picture links. StayCharted says it picked SigLIP 2 after testing it against DINOv2, and it publishes the loss: DINOv2 scored higher on its pet-breed test. It asks for at least 10 pictures per category. Vision recognizes what a photo shows; it does not read text inside receipts or forms.

Sensitive-data checks before training

Before a text model trains, AMT scans for email addresses, phone and card numbers, IBANs, US Social Security numbers, IP addresses, passwords and credentials. You choose to mask, drop or keep each type, and the choice is logged with a name and time. Masked models also mask new text at prediction time. The vendor says plainly that names, street addresses and free-text medical details are not detected.

Spreadsheets, an HTTP API and AI assistants

Trained models fill a column in a CSV, Excel or JSON file, with uncertain answers flagged for checking. Paid plans add a Prediction API, and the docs show a Google Sheets formula built on it. A connector lets Claude or ChatGPT send items to your model, start a fill or retrain, with training and publishing gated behind a one-time confirmation.

What Is It Like to Use StayCharted AMT?

We did not install it, so this describes the workflow as the vendor’s docs and product pages show it. The flow has four steps: upload completed work, check the examples, train and test, then publish. The checking step is the interesting one. It looks for inconsistent labels, gaps, duplicate pictures and links that fail to load before you spend a training run.

After training, each model reports accuracy on examples it never saw, plus which categories it confuses. New versions sit unpublished until you swap them in, and the live version keeps answering meanwhile. Team members get Builder, Reviewer or Viewer roles, and an activity log shows who changed what, including changes made through a connected assistant.

The vendor writing is the standout. Its pricing page shows the share of records each model type sent for human review on the public BANKING77 dataset: 27.7%, 19.2% and 9.2%. It then admits the cutoffs were chosen after seeing the test results, that each approach ran once, and that human review was never measured. Treat those numbers as the vendor’s own, on English short text only.

Where Does StayCharted AMT Fall Short?

Billing is per workspace, and the terms are strict about it. Each account gets one Free workspace. Every additional workspace needs a paid plan from the day it is created, and the fair-use section says departments and teams inside one business should be separated with workspaces, not extra accounts. Three teams on Essentials is $147 a month before tax, as the pricing page’s own example shows.

The Free plan has no API. It fills files you upload and download, nothing more. The marketing site calls it a free workspace that stays free, yet the terms say the Free plan may be changed, limited or discontinued at any time, and that StayCharted can end an all-Free account on reasonable notice. On Free, its liability limit is USD 0.

API throughput is low for live routing: 30 records a minute per workspace on Essentials and 60 on Business, shared by every key. That suits overnight fills and moderate ticket volume, not a busy queue that needs instant answers.

You cannot take most models with you. The export holds datasets, labels and training reports, but not model weights. Dedicated adapters can be downloaded only when a workspace drops to a plan without Dedicated models. There is no SLA, no annual plan, no refund for partial months, and the terms forbid deliberately uploading health, card or government ID data without a separate signed agreement.

How Much Does StayCharted AMT Cost?

Paid plans start at $49 per workspace per month for Essentials, in USD before tax, billed monthly with no annual option. The Free workspace costs $0 and includes 3 models (one of which can be an AI Classifier Model), 50 trainings and 10,000 records filled a month, but no API.

Essentials at $49 adds the API, 5 AI Classifier Models, 100 trainings and 25,000 records filled a month. Business at $99 raises that to 15 AI Classifier Models, 150 trainings and 50,000 records, and adds 3 Dedicated AI Models with 5 Dedicated trainings a month. Enterprise is priced on request. Vision costs an extra $49 on Essentials and $99 on Business, so a full Business setup with pictures is $198 a month per workspace.

There are no overages. When a workspace hits a limit, the work stops and you are offered an upgrade. Members are free and unlimited. Cancelling stops renewal, the workspace runs to the end of the paid month, then drops to Free with models above its limits switched off rather than deleted.

Against rivals, the price is low. The closest no-code text and image classifier we checked starts custom-trained models at $149 a month, three times Essentials. An image-only computer vision platform starts at $39 a month in credits, and an open training tool bills GPU time by the hour. StayCharted is the only one of the four with a flat monthly price and no usage overage.

Who is StayCharted AMT Best For?

Use StayCharted AMT if your team already has a few hundred labeled examples of a repeated decision: which queue a ticket goes to, which category a product belongs in, which ledger code an expense gets. It also suits teams who want a fixed monthly charge, a vendor that publishes its failure cases, and no data scientist on payroll.

Skip StayCharted AMT if you need high-volume live predictions, a contractual uptime promise, or the option to run your model on your own servers. Skip it too if your data is health records or card data, which the terms keep out without a separate agreement, or if you need to read text inside documents rather than sort them.

Best StayCharted AMT Alternatives

Nyckel

Nyckel classifies text, images and tabular data through an API and picks the best model for each function automatically. Its Free plan includes 100 invokes a month, Starter is $149 a month with custom-trained models and private inference, and Business is $599 a month. It is more mature and more automated, with usage-based charges past each allowance.

Roboflow

Roboflow is a computer vision platform for labeling, training and deploying image models, including object detection that AMT does not offer. The Free tier includes 10 credits a month, and Core is $39 a month billed monthly for 20 credits. It is image only, so it will not sort your support tickets.

Hugging Face AutoTrain

AutoTrain trains text and image classifiers with little or no code. It is free to run on your own machine, or billed per minute of hardware on Hugging Face Spaces, where a small T4 GPU is listed at $0.40 an hour. You own and can download the finished model, but you handle hosting and the review workflow yourself.

Final Verdict: Is StayCharted AMT Worth It?

StayCharted AMT does one job and documents it with rare candour. Its terms, privacy policy and pricing page match each other, customer content does not train shared models, and the subprocessor list is short: AWS for hosting and compute, plus one email delivery provider for notifications. For $49 a month you get a sensible way to turn past decisions into a sorting model that a spreadsheet user can run.

The risks are youth and lock-in. The service is about a week into its changelog, with no SLA, no portable weights for most models and a low API rate limit. We would start on the Free workspace with one real dataset, compare the test report against your current manual error rate, and pay only once a model clearly earns it. That earns a 7.0.

StayCharted AMT Pros & Cons

What We Like

  • Flat price per workspace with unlimited members and no usage overages: work stops at a limit instead of billing extra
  • Five model types, from a seconds-fast word classifier to a fine-tuned language model and a Vision image classifier
  • Sensitive-data scan before training lets you mask, drop or keep emails, card numbers, IBANs and credentials, with each choice logged
  • Terms and privacy policy say customer content never trains shared models, and the subprocessor list names only AWS and one email provider
  • Benchmarks come with their own caveats, including cutoffs chosen after seeing test results and unmeasured human review

What Could Be Better

  • Only one Free workspace per account; every extra team or department needs its own paid workspace from $49 a month
  • No API on Free, and the paid API allows only 30 records a minute on Essentials and 60 on Business per workspace
  • Exports leave out model weights, there is no SLA, no annual plan and no refund for partial months
  • Brand new service whose public changelog begins on 30 September 2026
